Deanna Contact Pic

As Fitness Coordinator, Deanna Popp oversees all Valley Athletics' personal training and group exercise instruction. In addition to a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and 14 years experience in the fitness industry, she holds several certifications from the American Council on Exercise (ACE), including personal trainer, group fitness, fitness nutrition, pre/postnatal fitness, kickboxing, and TRX.  Additional experience in training for 20 half marathons and countless 5K and 10Ks gives Deanna a full circle of qualifications to assist our members in making the most of their strength, cardio, and nutrition training.

Eric 10-6-16

Eric Huybers is pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology Healthcare Science from the University of Wisconsin⎯Oshkosh. He grew up a 4-sport athlete and has been trained and trains in multi-sport platforms. His strong passion for the immeasurable benefits of proper nutrition is rooted in the health food and supplement industry.  Eric has a strong love for the fitness culture, the camaraderie it creates, and the opportunity to introduce his clients to an array of training principles to help them meet their goals.

Jake Lyman Pic

Jake Lyman is a recent college graduate from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. He is currently pursuing a Personal Training certification through the NSCA for a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Jake has experience in personal training, sport specific training, and worked with the De Pere High School athletes for the Speed & Strength program during his internship in the summer of 2015. His goal is to provide the best training experience possible, and promote a healthier balanced lifestyle. On his free time he enjoys watching sports on Sundays and staying active whether at the gym or playing sports. Faith, family and friendships, are at the most importance in his life.

Alec 6-15-17

Alec Jensen holds a Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin -- Eau Claire in Kinesiology and Educational Psychology. He has experience training individuals, groups, and leading various exercise classes. Alec specializes in youth athletics and previously worked with both Grafton and Nicolet High School's as an assistant strength coach creating workout programs and supervising team workouts. He also assisted with Parisi Speed School training during his internship. Alec's goal is to provide the best training possible by teaching the fundamentals of proper form to maximize your workout and avoid injury so you can succeed both physically and mentally when it comes to strength and endurance training, weight loss, and overall physical fitness. Alec is currently pursuing a certification from the NSCA to become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

Cindy is a Certified Group Exercise Instructor through NDEITA, ACE, YMCA and FITOUR.  She recently became a certified personal trainer through NETA.  She began teaching fitness classes in 1990 in Mimmeapolis.  She is also certified in Body Vive and Grit through Les Mills, and Basic Instruction, Strength, Indoor group cycle, Get on the Ball, and cardio kickboxing all through the YMCA

What does Cindy like to do for her own Fitness?

"I love teaching classes!!  If I am not teaching a class I enjoy swimming, cycling outside, downhill skiing, water skiing, snow shoeing, cheering for my kids at their sporting events, or just about anything else that gets me outside and moving. When my knees are happy I like to run.  I have competed in triathlons in the past and would like to try one again soon- knees willing."

"I fell in love with running about a year ago and ran my first half marathon on June!  I also enjoy strength training, yoga, and going on bike rides or walks with my family."

Lydia has been practicing yoga for 5 years and recently finished her teacher training in June.  She is CYT and RYT for 200 hours.

"I practice hot yoga and enjoy walking.  I really enjoy spinning classes too!"

Val is a certified Group Fitness instructor through AFXX, and also carries an ACE Certification for Personal Training.  She has been teaching on and off for 37 years.  She is also certified thru AFXX in kickboxing and spin, thru NETA for Pilates and Yoga, and she holds a certificate in Kettleworx Kettlebell, Les Mills Body Pump, Body Step, Body Attack and Body Vive.

Stephanie has been teaching fitness classes for 16 years and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in December 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Promotion & Wellness and minor in Nutrition. Stephanie graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in May 2006 with Master of Science degree in Human & Community Resources and Nutrition. Stephanie is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Fitness & Nutrition Specialist (ACE), Personal Trainer (NASM), Schwinn and YMCA Group Cycling, YMCA Pilates, and TRX Suspension Training Level 1.

"For my personal fitness I lead a women's running group called Fellow Flowers ® where we participate in running races. I also enjoy triathlons, kayaking and teaching children's fitness yoga classes."

"I stay active by attending group fitness classes at Valley and any activity that doesn't feel like you're working out!"


Brenda Zumba

After taking Zumba classes for years, I decided to become a Zumba instructor six months ago.  I fell in love with Zumba the first time I tried it.  Zumba is like a big dance party with your friends.  You smile the entire time (even during lunges) because the music and instructors are so engaging.  My goal as an instructor is to ensure that everyone has a great time, regardless of abilities.  I hear so often that you have to be cordinated to take Zumba.  Not true!  Regardless of abilities, age, ance and fitness experience, Zumba is a workout that can appeal and benefit anyone.  If you want to have fun while getting an amazing workout, then Zumba just might be for you!
What does Brenda like to do for her own fitness?
"I mostly use Zumba as my personal fitness format as it incorporates cardio and toning.  I do enjoy supporting other instructor's as well by taking classes outside of Zumba such as Pound, Barre and Pilate."

Katrina is a Certified Group Exercise Instructor through NETA and has been teaching fitness classes for 3 years.  She started with Funk Classes (top 40 dance fitness) then became licenced in Zumba, and Zumba Toning.

What does Katrina like to do for her own Fitness?

"I truly love to teach Zumba, it is the one fitness format where participants are so passionate and enthusiastic about the class, it keeps you coming back again and again and you burn as many calories as running for the same amount of time!  When you add in the specialties you can definitely see results especially for a student that is wary of attending a gym or "regular group ex formats".  In addition to Zumba I really enjoy Body Pump and Total Body Fitness classes they bring out the competitor in me and I will push myself harder in these classes than I would when lifting on my own.  For relaxation, stretching, balance, and mental clarity I enjoy yoga."

"For my own fitness, I enjoy running, biking and skiing.  I like to participate in several different races each year to keep me motivated and challenged in different activities.  This enables me to become stronger both mentally and physically.  For my current challenge I am training to compete my first half Ironman this Summer.  In my "other" free time I am chasing after my two boys that are almost 3 and 6 (but I love every minute of it)."

"I love attending other instructor's Zumba classes, kick boxing, and strength and resistance classes.

Zumba is absolutely for everyone!  There seems to be a lot of initial hesitation from participants (due to the dance and coordination aspects), but I promise you if you take a class you will be hooked! Every instructor is amazing in their own style, but one thing is the same- you are guaranteed an hour of smiles & fun, along with huge calorie burn!  The hour will pass quickly and you will be excited to come back for more!! "I like to go to group fitness classes.  I started taking Zumba two years ago and that's when I realized that I wanted to become an instructor myself.  I have always been very passionate about dancing and it has been my favorite hobby.  I believe dancing is a great way to work out. Zumba allows people to feel free and be themselves."
